The journal Seascape organizes periodic Calls, twice a year, which are open to the entire national and international scientific community. These Calls aim to collect and select articles on specific topics defined by the Editorial Board in collaboration with the Scientific Committee. The selection of contributions for publication in the journal is entrusted to Referees chosen from both external and internal sources by the Scientific Committee, and is conducted through a rigorous double-blind review process.
During the Call phase, proposals are first submitted in the form of abstracts. These abstracts are evaluated anonymously by a minimum of three Referees, selected based on their expertise in relation to the content of the proposals submitted by the Authors. Each Referee assigns a score ranging from 1 to 30 to the abstract, considering factors such as the originality of the topic (maximum 10 points), clarity of presentation (maximum 10 points), and proposed research methodology (maximum 10 points). It is paramount that the evaluation process respects the individuality of the author, its ideas, and its research and work activities.
The Editorial Board compiles a ranking of the selected contributions based on the cumulative scores provided by the three Referees, accepting a maximum of 15 contributions. Authors of accepted abstracts are formally invited via official email to develop their abstracts into full-length articles, following the detailed guidelines provided by the journal.
From the inception of the journal, all full-length manuscripts submitted for publication undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process. Two Referees conduct the review objectively, refraining from personal criticism of the author and providing comprehensive justifications for their assessments. The aim of each evaluation is to enhance the understanding of the content, with all critiques offered constructively to guide authors towards refining their contributions to align with the editorial standards for publication.
In this second phase, Reviewers express their opinion on the relevance of the topic to the call, the originality and critical approach to the topic, the structure and articulation of the work, the clarity and style of exposition, the quality of syntax, the correctness of spelling, the quality and exhaustiveness of the reference bibliography, and the quality of images, also in relation to the text.
Articles that pass the second review phase with two positive evaluations are accepted for publication, provided they comply with the Editorial Guidelines of the journal. Referees still have the option to indicate minor or significant corrections. In the event that the Referees have suggested corrections and/or additions, the updated articles are submitted for their final opinion before actual publication.
Articles can be promoted for publication within the “Scientific Dossier” or as articles suitable for the “Columns” section. If they have to be published in the “Columns”, the contributions are adapted to editorial needs. Additionally, the “Columns” include photo reports, interviews, reviews, etc., which are not subject to the double-blind peer review process.
The Editorial Committee manages the review process through double-blind peer review to prevent conflicts of interest and disputes (read the Ethical Code).
