SEASCAPE aims to become an international reference point for exchanging knowledge and experiences concerning the issues and challenges affecting coastal areas worldwide, with a particular focus on the dynamics of transformation in Mediterranean landscapes. Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Geomorphology, Ecology, Botany, and Archaeology find in SEASCAPE a platform for discussion aimed at the dissemination and advancement of scientific research. This serves as an opportunity to produce and transfer a “new design culture” that is sensitive to contemporary contingencies. For these reasons, non-academic entities such as research centers, companies, associations, and local authorities also participate in creating a “bridge journal” between the world of scientific research, communities, and governance.
The journal adopts an Open Access editorial policy. Each issue is fully accessible on the journal’s website, www.seascape.it. Besides the digital version, which is freely available, Seascape is also produced in print, distributed by Primiceri Editore Srl in specialized bookstores and through e-commerce channels, ensuring maximum dissemination and sharing of content while protecting the author’s intellectual property.
The journal has its own Code of Ethics, drafted according to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and is committed to adhering to high standards of ethical behavior in all phases of the publication process. Authors, the Editorial Board, the Scientific Committee, the Reviewers and the Publisher are required to comply with the Code of Ethics. The journal has digital and print ISSN codes, ISBN codes, and DOI codes (for scientific dossier articles).
Structure of Publications
Each issue of Seascape, published twice a year, addresses a specific theme identified through the joint work of the Editorial Board and the Scientific Committee, with the support of the Editorial Staff. Each theme is treated in an “interdisciplinary” and “multiscalar” manner. The content is selected through an international call, promoted by the journal’s channels, the Publishing House, and the Scientific Committee affiliated with international academies and institutions. The content is organized into a Scientific Dossier and a series of Columns dedicated to interviews, reviews of recent books, publication of significant projects, competition results, exhibitions, etc.
All contributions submitted to the journal’s calls undergo double-blind peer review by the Scientific Committee and external reviewers registered on the “People” page. The Scientific Committee and the group of external reviewers are composed of Italian and foreign professors, researchers, and scholars. Each member is selected and invited for its specific scientific and disciplinary expertise and serves as a reference for the journal within various academies, research centers, and institutions. Besides evaluating and selecting articles, the Scientific Committee collaborates in identifying themes, disseminating calls, and distributing editorial products.
Submission and Selection Process
The SEASCAPE journal organizes periodic Calls (twice a year), open to the entire national and international scientific community, for the collection and selection of articles on specific themes defined by the Editorial Board in agreement with the Scientific Committee.
The selection of contributions published in the journal is entrusted to Referees chosen both externally and internally by the Scientific Committee and takes place through a double-blind review process. Abstracts submitted during the call phase are evaluated anonymously by a minimum of three Referees selected based on their expertise relevant to the proposed content. Each Referee assigns a score from 1 to 30, considering the originality of the theme (up to 10 points), the clarity of the presentation (up to 10 points), and the proposed research methodology (up to 10 points), while respecting the individual, their ideas, and their research and work activities.
The Editorial Board prepares a ranking of selected contributions based on the total scores assigned by the three Referees, accepting a maximum of 15 contributions. Authors of selected abstracts are officially invited via email to draft the full contribution, following the reviewers’ indications and the journal’s Editorial Guidelines.
From the first issue, full papers submitted for publication are subjected to a double-blind peer review process by two Referees who review objectively, abstaining from personal criticism of the author, and adequately motivating their judgments. Each evaluation is aimed at improving content comprehension, and any criticism is made constructively to encourage the author, during the final revision phase, to enhance the contribution and comply with editorial rules for publication.
Articles that pass the second review phase with two positive evaluations are admitted for publication, provided they comply with the journal’s Editorial Guidelines. Referees can still indicate minor or significant corrections. If corrections and/or additions are indicated by the Referees, updated articles are submitted for a final opinion before actual publication. Articles can be promoted for publication within the “Scientific Dossier” or as articles suitable for the “Columns”. If published in the “Columns”, contributions are adapted to editorial needs. Additionally, the “Columns” include photo reports, interviews, reviews, etc., which are not subjected to the double-blind peer review process.
